Designer Perfume

Yes. Every perfume we sell is an original retail bottle from the brand. We do not sell testers, decants, refills or replica fragrances.

They describe how much perfume oil is in the bottle. Eau de Toilette (EDT) is the lightest and suits daytime wear. Eau de Parfum (EDP) is stronger and usually lasts longer. Parfum is richer again, and Elixir is a name brands use for their most intense versions. The same perfume can smell and wear quite differently from one concentration to the next, even under the same name. The concentration is listed on every product page.

It depends on the concentration, your skin and the weather. An EDT generally fades faster than an EDP or Parfum, and every scent wears off quicker on dry skin and in strong heat. Applying it on moisturised skin, on the neck and inner wrists, helps it hold. Our product pages also show a longevity rating where we have one.

Fresh citrus and aquatic scents are the easiest to wear in the heat and in closed spaces like an office. Look for bright notes such as bergamot, grapefruit or yuzu, and go for an Eau de Toilette rather than a heavier Parfum. They are noticeable without being too much for the people around you.

Warmer, sweeter and spicier scents work best when it is cooler. Look for notes like amber, vanilla, tonka, leather or spice, and pick an Eau de Parfum, Parfum or Elixir so the scent lasts through a long evening.

A perfume changes as it dries. Top notes are what you smell first, usually bright citrus, fruit or spice, and they fade within the first stretch of wear. Heart notes take over after that and give the fragrance its main character. Base notes such as woods, amber, vanilla and musk come through last and linger the longest. You will find the full note pyramid on each product page.

Skin chemistry, how oily or dry your skin is and even the temperature all affect how a fragrance develops. That is why the same perfume can smell sweeter on one person and fresher on another. Reading the notes is a good way to judge whether the overall direction suits you.

Each perfume is listed with the gender the brand designed it for, but that is only a guide. Plenty of people wear scents made for the other side of the counter. If you like the notes, it is worth trying.

If you are trying a scent for the first time, a smaller bottle is the sensible choice. Once you know you like it, the larger bottle usually works out cheaper per ml. Where a perfume comes in more than one size, you can switch between them on the product page.

Keep it in a cool, dark place with the cap on. Direct sunlight, heat and humidity break a fragrance down faster, so a bathroom shelf, a sunny window sill or a parked car are the worst places to leave it. Stored well, a bottle keeps smelling the way it should for a long time.
