The One for Men first appeared in 2008 as an Eau de Toilette. In 2015 Dolce & Gabbana followed it with this Eau de Parfum, composed by Olivier Polge as a denser, warmer reading of the same idea. It is one of the most recognised evening scents for men, and it wears with an easy, polished confidence.
The opening is brief and bright. Grapefruit gives a clean bitterness, coriander adds a dry spice and basil brings a green, aromatic lift.
The heart is where it warms up. Cardamom and ginger give a soft, rounded spice, and orange blossom adds a touch of sweetness without turning floral. The base is the part most people remember: tobacco, amber and cedar, smooth and slightly sweet, sitting close to the skin.
The bottle is a heavy glass rectangle that fades from clear to black around a deep amber juice, with a black cap and the Dolce & Gabbana name in silver at its base.
It is at its best in autumn and winter, and most wearers save it for evenings, dinners and nights out. Community ratings put its longevity and projection in the moderate range, so it suits people who prefer a scent that stays close rather than fills a room.
Spray from about 15 cm onto pulse points such as the neck, wrists and inner elbows. Apply to clean, moisturised skin and let it dry without rubbing, which can dull the top notes.
Keep the bottle in its box, away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. A cool, dry cupboard is better than a bathroom shelf. Close the cap after each use.
