None of Sennheiser's IE series earphones has a microphone on the cable it ships with. This 1.2 m cable from Sennheiser adds one, so you can take calls on your phone without switching earphones. It clips onto both earpieces at MMCX connectors that Sennheiser shapes to sit in the recessed sockets of its IE models, and ends in an angled 3.5 mm plug with four contacts.
Sennheiser lists four compatible models: the IE 200, which is also sold here as the IE 200 Silver Edition, the IE 300, the IE 600 and the IE 900. The cables in their boxes, 3.5 mm on every model plus balanced 4.4 mm on the IE 600 and 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm on the IE 900, carry no microphone. Sennheiser does not list any other earphones for this cable.
The remote has a single button for call control and no volume keys, so you set the volume on your phone. The plug is wired to CTIA, the layout most smartphones use. Phones without a headphone socket need a USB-C or Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter that passes the microphone through, which is not included. The braided cable is silver-grey with black plastic parts.
Unplug the earphones from your device. Pull the supplied cable straight off each earpiece at its MMCX connector, without twisting it. Push the connectors of the microphone cable straight into the left and right earpieces until they click into place, then shape the ear hooks over your ears. Plug the angled 3.5 mm plug into your phone, or into a USB-C or Lightning adapter that supports a microphone. Press the button on the remote to answer or end a call.
