The Sennheiser IE 300 are wired audiophile in-ear monitor earphones built around a refined 7 mm Extra Wide Band (XWB) dynamic driver, made at Sennheiser's headquarters in Germany. A new membrane foil keeps distortion below 0.08 percent, and a resonator chamber removes the masking resonance of a sealed ear canal for clearer treble. Sennheiser lists a 6 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 16 ohm impedance and 124 dB SPL.
The 4 g housings sit on adjustable ear hooks that keep them steady on the move. Silicone and memory foam tips come in three sizes, and a good seal blocks up to 26 dB of outside noise. The 1.25 m oxygen-free copper cable is reinforced with para-aramid, detaches at gold-plated MMCX connectors set in recessed sockets, and ends in a 3.5 mm plug. A carry case and a cleaning tool are in the box.
The supplied cable has no microphone or inline remote, though Sennheiser sells an IE series cable with a mic separately, along with balanced 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm cables. There is no active noise cancelling and no water or sweat resistance rating. Phones without a 3.5 mm headphone socket need a USB-C or Lightning adapter or a small DAC, which is not included.
Start with the medium silicone tips and change size, or try the memory foam tips, until the earphones seal comfortably. To fit a foam tip, roll it thin between your fingers, put the earphone in and hold it for about 15 seconds while the foam expands. Connect the cable at the MMCX connectors, L to the left earpiece and the red-marked R to the right, and push each plug straight in until it clicks. Loop the ear hooks over your ears, slide the cable slider up under your chin to hold it in place, and plug the 3.5 mm jack into your phone, laptop, music player or DAC. Start at a low volume. To clean, take the tips off, rinse only the silicone tips with water and let them dry for 12 hours, and clear the sound outlets with the cleaning tool; never rinse the earphones.
Sennheiser IE 300 earphones, detachable 1.25 m cable with MMCX connectors and a 3.5 mm plug, silicone ear tips (S, M, L), memory foam ear tips (S, M, L), carry case, cleaning tool, quick guide and safety guide. No microphone cable, balanced cable or headphone jack adapter is included.
