The Sennheiser IE 900 are the flagship wired audiophile in-ear monitor earphones of Sennheiser's IE range, built around a single 7 mm Extra Wide Band (XWB) dynamic driver. Its X3R system adds an acoustic back volume, three Helmholtz resonator chambers and an acoustic vortex in the nozzle, which remove the resonances that mask fine treble detail. Sennheiser lists a 5 Hz to 48 kHz frequency response, distortion below 0.05 percent and 123 dB SPL.
Each housing is milled from a single block of aluminium and anodised. The IE 900 was developed in Germany and is assembled in Sennheiser's audiophile plant in Tullamore, Ireland, where left and right earpieces are paired by hand. The 4 g earpieces sit on adjustable ear hooks, and silicone and memory foam tips in three sizes block up to 26 dB of outside noise. Three 1.25 m cables attach at gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors in recessed sockets, and a carry case with a serial number plate is in the box.
None of the cables has a microphone or inline remote, though Sennheiser sells an IE series cable with a mic separately. There is no active noise cancelling and no water resistance rating. Phones without a 3.5 mm socket need a USB-C or Lightning adapter or a small DAC, not included, and the balanced cables need a source with a 2.5 mm or 4.4 mm balanced output.
Start with the medium silicone tips and change size, or try the memory foam tips, until the earphones seal comfortably. Each tip locks onto the nozzle in one of two positions. To fit a foam tip, roll it thin between your fingers, put the earphone in and hold it for at least 15 seconds while the foam expands. Pick the cable for your source: 3.5 mm for phones, laptops and most players, or the balanced 2.5 mm or 4.4 mm cable for a player, DAC or amplifier with that output. Connect it at the MMCX connectors, L to the left earpiece (tactile dot) and R to the right (red ring), and push each plug straight in until it locks. Bend the ear hooks to fit, loop them over your ears and start at a low volume. To clean, wipe the earphones with a soft dry cloth, rinse only the silicone tips under lukewarm water and let them dry for at least 12 hours, and clear the sound outlet grilles gently with the cleaning tool. Foam tips last a few months and Sennheiser sells replacements.

No microphone cable or headphone jack adapter is included.
