The Sennheiser IE 600 are wired audiophile in-ear monitor earphones built around a single 7 mm TrueResponse Extra Wide Band dynamic driver. Two resonator chambers in the nozzle absorb the masking resonances that can hide fine treble detail, and the back volume is tuned for a neutral sound with fast, accurate bass. Sennheiser lists a 4 Hz to 46.5 kHz frequency response, total harmonic distortion below 0.06 percent, 18 ohm impedance and 118 dB SPL.
Each housing is 3D printed in Germany from AMLOY-ZR01, an amorphous zirconium alloy that Sennheiser says is three times as hard as high-performance steel and resists scratches and corrosion. The earphones are made at Sennheiser's factory in Tullamore, Ireland, with the left and right drivers matched in pairs. Gold-plated MMCX connectors sit in recessed sockets, and the box holds two 1.25 m para-aramid reinforced cables, one with a 3.5 mm plug and one with a 4.4 mm balanced plug, plus silicone and memory foam tips in three sizes, a carry case and a cleaning tool.
Neither cable has a microphone or inline remote, though Sennheiser sells an IE series cable with a mic separately, along with a balanced 2.5 mm cable. There is no active noise cancelling and no water or sweat resistance rating. Phones without a 3.5 mm headphone socket need a USB-C or Lightning adapter or a small DAC, which is not included.
Start with the medium silicone tips and change size, or try the memory foam tips, until the earphones seal comfortably. To fit a foam tip, roll it thin between your fingers, put the earphone in and hold it for about 15 seconds while the foam expands. Pick the cable for your source: the 3.5 mm cable for phones, laptops and most music players, or the 4.4 mm balanced cable for players, DACs and amplifiers with a 4.4 mm output. Connect it at the MMCX connectors, L to the left earpiece (tactile dot) and R to the right (red ring), and push each plug straight in until it locks. Bend the ear hooks so the cable rests comfortably over your ears, and start at a low volume. To clean, rinse the silicone tips under lukewarm water and let them dry for at least 12 hours, clear the sound outlets with the cleaning tool, and wipe the earphones only with a soft, dry cloth.
