The Sony WH-CH720N wireless noise cancelling headphones use Sony's Integrated Processor V1 with Dual Noise Sensor technology, which picks up outside noise through feedforward and feedback microphones on the ear cups. Ambient Sound mode lets outside sound in, and in the Sony Sound Connect app you can set it across 20 levels, turn on Focus on Voice, or let Adaptive Sound Control change the setting to suit where you are and what you are doing.
The 30 mm dynamic drivers are tuned for balanced sound, and DSEE restores detail lost in compressed music files. Over Bluetooth 5.2 the headphones play SBC and AAC, and multipoint keeps two devices connected at once, switching to the one that rings. Calls go through a beamforming microphone with Precise Voice Pickup and a wind noise reduction structure, and at about 192 g they are light for an over-ear noise cancelling pair.
Sony rates the battery at up to 35 hours with noise cancelling on and 50 hours with it off. A full charge over USB-C takes about 3.5 hours, and 3 minutes of charging gives about an hour of music. There is no LDAC, no carrying case and no power adapter in the box, the controls are physical buttons rather than a touch panel, and Sony gives no water resistance rating.
Charge the headphones before first use with the supplied USB Type-C cable and your own USB charger; a full charge takes about 3.5 hours. Hold the power button for about 2 seconds to switch them on. The first time, they go into pairing mode, so choose WH-CH720N in your phone's Bluetooth list; Windows 10 or 11 PCs with Swift Pair show a pop-up instead. Install the Sony Sound Connect app to update the software and set noise cancelling, Ambient Sound, the equaliser and multipoint. For wired listening, plug the supplied headphone cable into the headphones and a 3.5 mm socket.
Sony WH-CH720N headphones, USB Type-C cable (USB-A to USB-C, about 20 cm), headphone cable (about 1.2 m) and reference guide. No power adapter or carrying case is included.
