- 56 mm ring radiator dynamic drivers, angled towards the ear, in a closed-back design that keeps outside noise out and your music in.
- Curved Gorilla Glass covers send the sound from the back of each driver into two damped chambers to cut resonance.
- 6 Hz to 48 kHz frequency response (-10 dB), 300 ohm impedance, 103 dB SPL and up to 25 dB of passive noise reduction.
- Two 3 m silver-plated OFC cables in the box: 6.35 mm unbalanced and 4.4 mm balanced, both with gold-plated plugs.
- Metal headband with a damping insert, dual-axis ear cups and replaceable ear pads, headband padding and dust covers; about 360 g.
- Developed in Germany and built by hand in Ireland, with a two-year Sennheiser warranty.
The Sennheiser HD 820 use the same kind of 56 mm ring radiator driver as Sennheiser's open-back HD 800 S, but in closed ear cups. Behind each driver sits a curved Gorilla Glass cover that sends the sound coming off the back of the diaphragm into two damped chambers, so it does not bounce back and blur the music. Sennheiser lists a 6 Hz to 48 kHz response, 300 ohm impedance and up to 25 dB of outside noise reduction.
The headband is metal with a damping insert, and the ear cups turn on two axes. The ear pads, headband padding and dust covers can all be replaced. They weigh about 360 g without the cable. Two 3 m silver-plated copper cables come in the box, one with a 6.35 mm plug and one with a balanced 4.4 mm plug, plus a storage box and a microfibre cloth. Each pair is built by hand at Sennheiser's plant in Ireland.
At 300 ohm they need a proper headphone amplifier, and a phone will not drive them well. There is no microphone, remote or noise cancelling, and the glass covers can break if dropped.
Pick the cable that suits your amplifier: the 6.35 mm cable, fitted at the factory, for a standard headphone socket or the 4.4 mm cable for a balanced output. To change cables, hold the ear cup and pull the connector straight out, then match the L and R marks on the new connectors to the ear cups and push them in until they click. If the headphones come in from the cold, let them stand for two hours first so no condensation forms on the glass. Turn the volume down before you plug in, put them on with the L and R marks on the correct sides, and use the scale on the headband to set both sides to the same length. After listening, put them back in the storage box.
Sennheiser HD 820 headphones, 3 m cable with a 6.35 mm stereo plug (unbalanced, fitted at the factory), 3 m cable with a 4.4 mm stereo plug (balanced), storage box, microfibre cloth and instruction manual. No 3.5 mm adapter, XLR-4 cable or headphone amplifier is included.
Sennheiser gives the first owner a two-year warranty from the date on the invoice when this product is bought new from an authorised Sennheiser dealer in India. To claim, contact Sennheiser India customer support or visit a Sennheiser service centre with the original invoice, as every claim needs it. Detachable cables and other accessories in the box, the ear pads, normal wear and tear, damage from misuse or accidents, and products opened or repaired by anyone other than an authorised service partner are not covered.
