The Sennheiser Ambeo Sub is a wireless subwoofer made to add deeper bass to Sennheiser's Ambeo soundbars. Sennheiser announced it alongside the Ambeo Soundbar Plus in September 2022, and it went on sale in India in August 2023. A single 8-inch long-throw cellulose cone woofer, driven by a 350W class D amplifier, sits in a closed cabinet that keeps the bass tight and controlled. It plays from 27 Hz to 80 Hz and takes over the lowest notes from the soundbar.
The woofer fires upwards through the fabric-covered top of the 274 x 274 x 369 mm cube, so nothing should stand on it. Sennheiser suggests placing it beside the soundbar, about 15 cm from the wall and within 10 m of the bar. A built-in far-field microphone lets the Sub join the soundbar's room calibration, which measures your room and tunes the bass to it. With the Ambeo Soundbar Plus or Mini, up to four Ambeo Subs connect over Bluetooth Low Energy without an audio cable, and the Sennheiser Smart Control app handles the level and settings.
The Ambeo Sub works only as part of an Ambeo system. It has no Wi-Fi, HDMI or optical input of its own and plays the bass the soundbar sends it. The Ambeo Soundbar Max cannot link to it wirelessly: it takes one Sub through a mono RCA cable, not included, from its subwoofer output. The Ambeo Soundbar Plus already reaches 38 Hz alone, so Sennheiser presents the Sub as an option for more bass rather than a must. It weighs 8.2 kg and carries a one-year Sennheiser warranty in India.
Set up your Ambeo soundbar first. Place the Ambeo Sub on a firm, level floor in the same room, ideally beside the soundbar, about 15 cm from the wall and within 10 m of the bar, with nothing on top, as the woofer fires upwards. Plug in the power cord. With the Ambeo Soundbar Plus or Mini, the Sub starts in pairing mode with its LED pulsing yellow: add it in the Sennheiser Smart Control app or press the Setup button on the soundbar, and the LED turns white once connected. With the Ambeo Soundbar Max, run a mono RCA cable from the soundbar's subwoofer output to the Sub's IN SUB socket. Then run the room calibration again so the soundbar and Sub are tuned together.
Sennheiser Ambeo Sub, power cord (about 1 m), instruction manual, quick guide, and safety guide and compliance sheet. The Ambeo soundbar is sold separately, and the mono RCA cable needed for the Ambeo Soundbar Max is not included.
