The Marshall Tufton is a portable Bluetooth speaker shaped like an upright guitar amp, with a leather-like covering, a solid metal grille and flush-mounted corner caps. It measures 229 x 163 x 350 mm, weighs 4.9 kg and has a detachable guitar-style carry strap on top. It is rated IPX2, so it can take a little water but should stay out of rain and away from the pool.
Four Class D amplifiers give 80W in total: 40W for a 5.25-inch woofer, 15W each for two 2-inch full-range drivers and 10W for a 16 mm dome tweeter. With one full-range driver facing the back, Marshall calls this True Stereophonic sound, rated 40 Hz to 20 kHz and 102 dB at 1 m. Knobs on top set volume, bass and treble.
Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX reaches 10 m and keeps two devices connected, and a 3.5 mm AUX input takes a wired source. The battery lasts 20+ hours at medium volume and charges in 2.5 hours from the included mains lead, with 20 minutes giving about 4 hours of play. It has no USB port, microphone or app support, and at 4.9 kg it suits a garden or terrace better than a long walk.
