The Marshall Acton II is a compact Bluetooth home speaker for a shelf, desk or bedside table. It is 260 mm wide and runs from the mains. The wooden cabinet is wrapped in textured vinyl, with a salt and pepper grille, the Marshall script logo and a brass plate marked EST. 1962, so it looks like a small Marshall guitar amp.
Inside, two 15W amplifiers drive a pair of 3/4-inch dome tweeters and a 30W amplifier drives a 4-inch woofer, with a bass port on the back. Turn the bass and treble knobs to shape the sound, or use the Marshall Bluetooth app on Android or iOS. Bluetooth 5.0 reaches up to 10 m, two phones can stay connected at once, and the 3.5 mm AUX input takes a wired source such as a laptop or TV.
There is no battery, so the speaker stays plugged in, and it has no microphone, Wi-Fi or voice assistant. Sound comes from the front grille, so face it towards where you sit. In the app it can couple with a second Acton II, Stanmore II or Woburn II Bluetooth speaker as a stereo pair or to play the same music in two places.
