Battery life is rated at up to 57 hours, a full charge over USB-C takes about 2 hours, and a 5-minute top-up gives roughly 3 hours of music. Multi-point keeps two devices connected, so a phone call can cut in on a video on your tablet. Buttons on the ear cup handle volume, playback, calls and Siri or Google Assistant, and Voice Aware lets you hear your own voice during calls.

The small cushions rest on your ears rather than around them, and some reviewers find them tiring over long sessions. There is no active noise cancelling and only light isolation, so bus and office noise comes through. Listening is over Bluetooth only, as there is no 3.5 mm socket and the USB-C cable in the box is for charging. The build is mostly plastic, and no carrying case is included.

Charge the headphones before first use with the supplied USB-C cable; a full charge takes about 2 hours from empty, using any 5 V, 1 A USB charger (not included). Hold the power button for about 2 seconds to switch on. The first time, the headphones go straight into pairing mode, so pick JBL TUNE520BT in your phone's Bluetooth menu; Android phones with Google Fast Pair and Windows PCs with Swift Pair show a pairing pop-up instead. To pair another phone later, switch the headphones off and hold the power button for 5 seconds. For a second device at the same time, connect the first one, press the Bluetooth button once and pair the second as usual. Install the free JBL Headphones app to set the EQ and choose the voice prompt language.
