The JBL Tour One M3 Smart Tx noise cancelling headphones come with the JBL Smart Tx, a small touchscreen transmitter included in this bundle. Plug it into a flight seat-back screen, a TV or a PC through USB-C or the supplied 3.5 mm cable, and it streams that sound wirelessly to the headphones. Its screen adjusts noise cancelling and EQ, shares audio over Auracast and lasts about 18 hours.

Each ear cup holds a 40 mm mica dome driver. Bluetooth 5.3 brings LDAC for Hi-Res Audio and multi-point links to two devices, and the built-in DAC plays lossless audio over USB-C. True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 uses eight microphones, and JBL Spatial 360 adds head tracking. Battery life is up to 70 hours with ANC off or 40 hours with it on.

Reviewers find the noise cancelling strong on engine hum, though the best Sony and Bose models cut voices more fully. The plastic build feels less premium than rivals at this price, treble can turn sharp at high volume, and the touch panel is easy to brush by accident. JBL lists no water resistance rating, aptX is missing, and the Smart Tx is one more device to charge.

Charge the headphones and the Smart Tx before first use with the supplied USB-C to USB-C cable, using the USB-C to USB-A adapter if your charger has a USB-A port; the headphones take about 2 hours to charge from empty. Slide the power switch to turn the headphones on and pair them, then pick JBL Tour One M3 in your phone's Bluetooth menu; Android phones with Google Fast Pair show a pairing pop-up. Install the JBL Headphones app for noise cancelling levels, Spatial 360, Personi-Fi 3.0, EQ and firmware updates. To use the Smart Tx, plug it into the source's USB-C port, or into a 3.5 mm jack such as an in-flight armrest socket with the USB-C to 3.5 mm cable; it streams to the headphones, and its touchscreen gives quick access to the main controls.
