JBL Go Essential 2 Portable Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker - Black

The JBL Go Essential 2 portable Bluetooth speaker measures 8.6 x 7.1 x 3.2 cm and weighs 180 g, small enough for a jacket pocket. A single 40 mm driver puts out 3.1W RMS of JBL Original Pro Sound, with a 180 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. Five buttons on top handle power, Bluetooth pairing, volume and play or pause.

It is rated IP67, so it is dust tight and protected against a drop into water, which suits the beach or a rainy trek. The 2.7Wh battery gives up to 5 hours of music and recharges in about 2.5 hours through the USB-C port on the side. It connects to a phone, tablet or laptop over Bluetooth 4.2.

This is a small mono speaker for a desk, a tent or a picnic, not a large room, and its output drops off below 180 Hz, so the deepest bass is missing. JBL lists no microphone, app or multi-speaker pairing, so it plays from one device on its own. Five hours suits a day out rather than a weekend away, and the box has no charging cable, so you need your own USB-C cable and adapter.

Charge the Go Essential 2 before first use with a USB-C cable and a 5V phone adapter, both sold separately; a full charge takes about 2.5 hours. Press the power button, press the Bluetooth button, then select the speaker in your phone's Bluetooth menu. Use the plus and minus buttons for volume and the play button to pause or resume music.

Physical or accidental damage, batteries and buttons that wear with use, accessories such as charging cables and power adapters, and repairs by anyone other than an authorised service centre are not covered.
