The JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi is a portable Bluetooth speaker with Wi-Fi built in, for streaming at home and on battery outdoors. A racetrack woofer rated at 30W RMS and a separate 20 mm tweeter rated at 10W RMS share the work, with two passive radiators for bass and a 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response.
On dual-band Wi-Fi 6 it plays up to 24-bit/96 kHz audio through Apple AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect and Alexa Multi-Room Music. Bluetooth 5.3 takes over away from home. Two built-in microphones tune the sound to the room, and the heart-shaped Moment button starts a playlist saved in the JBL One app, which also has a 3-band EQ. The battery lasts up to 20 hours, and a USB-A port charges a phone.
It is rated IP67 for dust and water. There is no voice assistant inside, so Alexa voice control needs a separate Echo device. PartyBoost and stereo pairing are not supported; speakers group over Wi-Fi instead. A full charge takes about 6 hours, there is no carry strap, the sound is directional, and the app needs your phone on the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker.
