The Bose SoundLink Max is a portable Bluetooth speaker built for parties, trips and the outdoors. Three transducers across the front play in stereo, and two passive radiators handle the bass. The steel body is powder coated and wrapped in silicone, and the IP67 rating means it copes with dust, rain and a drop into water up to 1 m deep for 30 minutes. A removable rope handle makes it easy to carry.
It keeps two Bluetooth devices connected at once, with a range of about 9 m. Phones with Snapdragon Sound stream over aptX Adaptive, and AAC is supported too. A 3.5 mm AUX input takes wired sources such as a turntable. The battery lasts up to 20 hours, and the USB-C port can also charge your phone. The Bose app adds an EQ for bass, mid-range and treble.
There is no microphone, so it cannot take calls or work as a speakerphone. At maximum volume the battery lasts about 3 hours, and a full recharge takes up to 5 hours from a 15W USB-C charger, which is not in the box.
