The Bose Portable Smart Speaker is a smart speaker you can carry from room to room or take outdoors. One downward-facing driver fires into a deflector to spread sound evenly in 360 degrees, and three passive radiators add bass. The anodised aluminium body stands 19 cm tall, weighs 1.06 kg and is rated IPX4 against splashes and rain.
On Wi-Fi it works with Alexa in English, the voice assistant Bose supports on its smart speakers in India. You can also stream through Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 or Chromecast built-in, and group it with other Bose smart speakers and soundbars in the Bose app. Away from Wi-Fi it becomes a Bluetooth speaker for your phone. The battery lasts up to 12 hours and recharges in about 4 hours over USB-C.
Google Assistant isn't available on Bose smart speakers in India, and two units can't be set up as a stereo pair. There is no AUX input, and only one phone connects over Bluetooth at a time. Owners like the full sound and bass for its size, while some find the battery drains faster at high volume. The charging cradle is sold separately.
Plug the speaker into the supplied USB-C power supply and press the Power button. Install the Bose app (formerly Bose Music) on your phone, sign in and follow the steps to add the speaker to your Wi-Fi network. In the app, choose Amazon Alexa as the voice assistant and sign in to your Amazon account. To play over Bluetooth instead, press the Bluetooth button on top and pick the speaker in your phone's Bluetooth settings.
